I am writing to strongly oppose AB530, which would strip voters of their right to approve future gas tax increases in Clark County. This bill removes critical taxpayer oversight and allows county commissioners to impose automatic tax hikes without direct voter approval.

Nevadans deserve a say in tax increases that impact their daily lives. Fuel costs are already high, and allowing politicians to raise gas taxes without voter consent sets a dangerous precedent for taxation without accountability. The original requirement for a public vote in 2026 was put in place for a reason—to ensure fairness and transparency. AB530 undermines that process and ignores the will of the people.

Furthermore, in Clark County our fuel taxes per gallon are already 37 cents higher than the state of Arizona and 17 cents higher than Utah, and both of those states have well-maintained roads with much lower fuel taxes for their residents.  How are the legislators in those states doing a better job managing their road infrastructure budgets, while our legislators are continually pushing for tax hikes In Clark County, Nevada? Instead of forcing higher costs on taxpayers, we should be looking at more efficient ways to use existing funds—not automatic increases by legislators without voter input.

I urge you to vote NO on AB530 and stand up for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and voter rights. Let’s keep tax decisions where they belong—in the hands of the people.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response on this important issue.

I oppose AB530 because it removes voter oversight on gas tax increases, giving politicians the power to raise fuel costs without public approval. Tax decisions should be made with transparency and accountability, not behind closed doors. Say NO to AB530!

I strongly oppose AB530 because it takes away the right of voters to approve future gas tax increases, handing that power to politicians instead. Hardworking Nevadans deserve a say in decisions that directly impact their wallets. This bill opens the door to unchecked tax hikes without transparency or accountability. Tax increases should be decided by the people, not behind closed doors. I urge lawmakers to reject AB530 and protect voter rights.

AB530 is a dangerous overreach that takes power away from voters and gives politicians the ability to raise gas taxes without public approval. Nevadans should have a say in tax increases that directly impact their daily lives. This bill sets a troubling precedent for taxation without accountability, stripping away transparency and oversight. I urge lawmakers to stand with the people, reject AB530, and protect voter rights.
